History of the Danish Kroner

The Danish kroner, noted also as the DKK, was established for the country in 1873 after the Scandinavian Monetary Union was disbanded. Each country of the union decided to maintain the name its own currency, and thus the term "krone" (which translates to crown in English) remained. The same currency was used in Norway and Sweden, but the Swedes called it "krona". With the development of the euro, Denmark now remains the only country to have this currency anymore. The country opted not to sign the Maastricht Treaty in order to keep their right to the preservation of the krone.

Historical British Pound Sterling to Danish Kroner Conversion Rates

Historically, the Danish kroner has not done very favorably compared to the British pound sterling, with exchange rates falling as low as .05 GBP to DKK. These rates were common up until 1966, when the currency finally began to make an improvement. Rates continued to increase until 1972, and then there was a huge jump in value, going from .056 GBP to DKK to .068 GBP to DKK in just one year. This sharp increase lasted through the 1970s, and then the Danish kroner saw a small decline. The value of the Danish Kroner varied greatly in the 1980s, but eventually hit a steady plateau. Since 1986, the DKK conversion rate has stayed around .09 GBP to DKK or better, with the highest value of .11 GBP to DKK occurring in 1995. The mid 1990s have shown to be the best years for the currency overall.

Convert GBP to DKK - Recent Currency Exchange Rates

Over the past ten years, the currency exchange rate between the GBP and DKK hasn't changed too much. The DKK has fared pretty well overall when compared to the rates of the past. The worst year in the recent history of the Danish kroner in was in 2000 when the rate was .082 GBP to DKK. The best time was in 2003 when the exchange hit .093 GBP to DKK. The recent average is .088 GBP to DKK, and that has been rather consistent for almost 30 years now. Numbers are expected to remain around that average or potentially improve in the next few years, depending on how Denmark's economy fares in the future.
