I suppose the overriding reason for the FairFX card was the much better exchange rate
I learned about FairFX cards from a newspaper article and as I was planning a holiday to USA it seemed an ideal product.
Applying for a FairFX card was very simple and straightforward as was topping it up with currency. I could decide when I thought the £/$ rate was acceptable to top-up and in fact bought 3 lots of US$.
My experience was that the card was fully accepted in USA in all types of shops, restaurants etc and I also used it to withdraw cash from an ATM with a charge of only 2$. (Beware – some ATMs add their own charges)
I suppose the overriding reason for the FairFX card was the much better exchange rate than taking cash and the avoidance of credit card charges.
