With the announcement that Nationwide will soon be introducing charges for overseas use on their FlexAccount debit cards, the Guardian suggests that customers who still need to find wasy tp make their overseas spending cheaper look to pre-paid currency cards:
"Another alternative is pre-pay cards. These are a relative newcomer to the travel money scene, but work in the same way as a credit card or debit card, and can be used in most foreign ATMs and shops.
The difference is that you can only spend what you have pre-loaded on the card, so they can be useful for budgeting (and security). Leading pre-pay cards include those issued by Fairfx.com..."

A great article on the website CreditChoices.co.uk today discussed whether or not you may be getting hidden travel money charges this Easter.
The article reviews different top debit and credit cards and it unveils some surprising charges that most people won’t be aware of... for instance, did you know that if you withdrew the equivalent of £100 cash with your Alliance and Leicester debit card when you’re abroad it will cost you £4.25?
Withdrawing the equivalent of £100 using an MBNA Europe Bank card costs a staggering £5.99.

An interesting article published on Firstrung today mentioned that 57% of people have been forced to slash how much they are willing to pay for their holidays.
Our chief executive Stephen Heath said: "As the credit crunch continues to bite, and the cost of living spirals upwards, Brits have been forced to slash their holiday spending. Understandably, basic housekeeping costs are a bigger priority for families, but many people will be disappointed to have to cut back just when they could do with a little sun and relaxation."

Moneywise published an interesting article today which mentioned that holidaymakers face a penalty up to 3% every time they use their credit and debit cards abroad as foreign usage charges get more expensive.
In the article our Chief Executive Stephen Heath said: "Most providers rely on the fact holidaymakers will be in a complete rush when preparing for a trip abroad, and either fail to organise currency before they get to the airport or opt to use credit or debit cards for their foreign spending.
“Our analysis shows to what extent this approach could be costing travellers dear.”
