I took the FairFX Card with me to Thailand recently. I chose it because I was fed up with having to cart travellers cheques about, plus I found myself constantly feeling about to make sure that I hadn't lost them. (Travellers cheques around your waist in a money belt on an 11 hour flight is pretty uncomfortable.)
FairFX is a great way to budget because you can put the cash you've set aside for your holiday on the card, and just take cash against it as you go. You can keep check as you go via the website as regards balance left.
I have to admit I wasn't sure that I could use the card in Thailand but I needn't have worried. It works in all cashpoints with the mastercard sign.
My advice is to take the maximum cash out that you feel comfortable carrying because the commission seems to be the same regardless of the amount withdrawn. (Put the excess in the hotel safe.) 10,000 bht withdrawal for example (approx £200) charge is 150bht (£3) which competes well with most money changers out there. Plus you can of course do this 24 hrs of the day, so not reliant on moneychangers hours of business.
The one thing I don't like about the service is that the website isn't user friendly. When I first read about the FairFX card I wasn't clear if it could be used to get currency other that $ or €. I think the site could make this clearer, and it should get more customers!
The website design is my only real moan about FairFX, and I must admit the e-mail support is top notch!

The FairFX Currency Card has been invaluable to myself and my daughter.
This was my daughters’ first trip away after University so I needed to find an easy, quick and reliable way for her to take money with her. Her friend, already a traveller, recommended the FairFX card.
The main reasons that I have found FairFX Currency Card invaluable is how easy it is to 'top-up', the rates that you receive, and the ease of use that my daughter has found in using it whilst away.
Finally, the helpline is extremely efficient in helping with any queries or problems you may encounter. I will definitely be using this facility for any future travel.

Being tired of The Post Office and Bureau De Change rates, I carried out extensive research on other options for exchanging Sterling for Euros.
I found that the FairFX Euro card was the ideal option for my European travel. For me, there is no better way to spend cash in Europe, the FairFX card has the best rate by far, and it’s so much safer and easier than carrying cash.
I also use my Euro card in the UK, in fact, I don't even use normal bank cards or credit cards, the FairFX cards are my primary plastic! Not long after finding the FairFX Euro card, I quickly decided to order the FairFX Dollar card.
And after 8 months of being with FairFX, I have decided to order another Euro card as a back-up should my primary card get lost, stolen or damaged.
I am extremely pleased with every aspect of the FairFX cards, and I'm also very happy with the "personal" customer service that FairFX offer.
Whether via email or phone, every request is carried out efficiently, and every question accurately answered, exactly as asked, and promptly.
I would recommend the FairFX cards to anyone that travels in Europe or countries that accept the Dollar.
The bottom line is, FairFX give me the best rates and a tight service to back everything up.

I just wanted to express my thanks for helping me with my application for a currency card.
The application process wasn't straightforward (things never seem to be with me) as I failed the initial security checks. However, my application was processed again and this time I passed - hooray.
Then I had trouble loading the card with funds - again we managed to find a way around it and then today, my card arrived. I am heartily relieved at that one as I was fearful it would arrive after I had left for my holiday!
However, throughout all of this, the staff over there have been particularly helpful and exceptionally courteous and for that I would like to say "thank you". I have received replies to my queries outside of the normal banking 9-5 and my change of address request today was actioned in what seemed like minutes.
Nowadays we all seem to ready to complain about poor service, but not so keen to recognise good or even exceptional service.
I will certainly use you again in the future (no need to panic, I now have my card!!) and will certainly recommend you to others.
Kind regards

I have just used my card for the first time in France and Germany. It does exactly what you promised in relation to no transaction charges, cheap cash withdrawals, and accepted everywhere I went from road tolls to restaurants and hotels.
It was very easy to load and the rate you give is absolutely top of the tree! All my mates are now looking at it for foreign travel. I wouldn't go without it now, thank you.

I had been considering a foreign currency card for some time and eventually settled on the FairFX card following a recommendation by Martin Lewis "Money Saving Expert".
Applying for the card was easy and the loading the card with Euros was simple. The exchange rate offered by FairFX also turned out to be one of the best around. I used the FairFX card for the first time in May whilst on holiday in Madeira.
It was great, not only was it easy to use, it was accepted everywhere. The card was also cheaper to use than normal Credit or Debit cards. I only paid, as promised, €1.50 for cash withdrawals and there was no charge whatsoever when I used the card in shops and restaurants.
Since coming home I have been recommending the FairFX card to all my friends, I have even said to them that they would be daft not to get one.

Just a few lines to say thanks for the customer support in setting up my new dollar MasterCard.
We are very pleased with the FairFX Card and service so thought we would let you know,
It is much easier and safer carrying our holiday money in this way, not to mention that the rates are very good when compared to buying cash or travel cheques.
We also like the online card loading and checking of balance facility, we used that on our last holiday to Spain. Most of the Spanish banks don't mind you logging online at their branches to do that so we found that very secure.
Your ATM charges in Spain were actually cheaper than using my UK bank debit card and with the added bonus of not getting home to un budgeted bills.
We have already recommended your cards to family and friends.
I have just ordered an American Dollar card for a forthcoming trip to New York so thanks for your help with that.

I am delighted with my new card. This card was recommended by a friend.
The card is amazing. What I particularly like about it is that you can save up for your holidays and load your card with currency and use it anywhere in Europe and I believe also the USA, which we intend travel to next year.
I like it because you are not carrying vast amounts of money around and also you can return from your holiday without debt.
I have used my mobile to let me know what my balance is, and it is unbelievably easy to top-up.
I had a few questions in the beginning, and I must say that the customer service is brilliant. They respond to your emails straight away.
My children each have their own card, and I would say this way of using a pre-paid card is the best thing for our family.
Thank you FairFX, from a very satisfied customer.

FairFX came to my attention when they were quoted in the MoneyMail for something the company had commented on. I decided to do some research and see who they were. I am just the average bloke, mid 50’s retired and enjoy holidays abroad. It has always bugged me that commission was charged twice on Traveler’s Cheques, the ‘safe way’ of using your own money abroad and the Travel Companies exchange rates, whilst commission free, were not that friendly to the customer in relation to the exchange rate to someone like me. I seemed to lose out every way.
FairFX appeared to offer me a service with a good rate of exchange, commission free and with a built in safety feature, that I was unlikely to need but was available.
I loaded my card and went off to Rhodes for a couple of weeks. On my first transaction I had not withdrawn enough money to pay for the items I wished to purchase and had to go back to the ATM near the supermarket. Somewhere between the ATM, the Supermarket and the apartment in the hotel I lost my FairFX card. I was, at that time, unaware of my loss.
When I was packing to return to the UK I noted the loss of my FairFX card. I contacted the company by e-mail at the earliest opportunity the following day. Within a couple of hours of notifying the company I had a personal response from an employee telling my card would be replaced. I was concerned there may have been fraudulent transactions on the card so I replied to the employee itemising my use of the card, time, locations, amounts and asked if there had been any unauthorized use. Within the hour the employee assured me the only transactions logged were those made by me.
It was an enormous relief to not only me but also my wife to know our cash was safe. If I had lost that amount of money in cash I would have been seriously annoyed with myself and it would have been a financial set back to us both.
I cannot praise the FairFX concept or the customer relations high enough. They are a shining example of how to run a business, keep the customer satisfied and their money safe. A Gold Standard class service.

I obtained a FairFX Card to secure a good exchange rate.
It was easy to use and saved me money. My contact with staff was very positive. They were helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. A good service all round.
